"Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits patiently for the precious fruit of the vine until it receives the autumn rains and spring rains. You also be patient, your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near "(James 5.7 to 8).
These words from the letter of St. James the Apostle Church law in the liturgy of Advent. With these words also salute you, Virgin of Nazareth, who respects the fruit of thy womb. The Church looks to you as a permanent example of her motherhood. The Church is also called to be a mother like you in the order of grace through the sacrament of Baptism. And how you conceived and gave the world the Son of God, submitting to power of the Holy Spirit himself, so the Church will always submit to the sanctifying power of that Spirit who gives life and God gives it to the sons and daughters of mankind.
"My little children, whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you" says St. Paul (Gal 4:19).
Blessed are you, Mother of the Son of God
[Angelus, 14 December 1986]
